Q&A

What was the first job you had?

Starting in middle school, I caddied during the summers at a local golf course.  There was a lot of competition amongst the caddies for who could get the most “loops”.  My knowledge of the game was average at best, but I made up for it with hustle – that meant being first in line each morning, never saying no to a round, and never losing a ball!

What attracted you to the business of brand building?

Growing up, our family dinner table conversations often included stories of building brands in faraway places.  My late father spent his career with Colgate Palmolive and Coca-Cola Bottling, crisscrossing the globe as those great American brands rapidly expanded and became household names on every continent.  He was my idol, and I loved hearing his stories about how iconic brands were built.

What’s the best piece of advice you’ve ever received?

When I started as an intern at J.P. Morgan, someone told me that I’d be successful if I remembered three simple things: 1) have a good attitude, 2) work hard, and 3) take every opportunity you’re given.  I’ve never forgotten that message, and I try to impart the same advice to everyone I’ve hired in the years since.

What attracted you to TSG?

Having spent my whole career working around the consumer and retail sectors, picking TSG was an easy decision. They’ve built an incredible track record while maintaining a great team culture.
